Website Care Plan
Websites are complicated.
They have lots of connected parts that sometimes don’t play nice. This can lead to error pages, sluggish performance, and code compromises. Fortunately, most of this stuff can be eliminated by a regular schedule of maintenance, updates and monitoring.
Use it, or lose it.
Like any technology or process, if you don’t modify your website on a regular basis no amount of training will help you remember how. Training videos get stale, documentation gets lost, something gets deleted or moved.
Before you know it, your website looks six years old; the content is obsolete, links are broken, images are missing, and you’ve got no idea how to fix it.
We can help.
We can’t guarantee that nothing will ever go wrong with your website, but we can certainly minimize the chances. For $200 per month we offer a comprehensive website care plan that includes 22 tasks and services designed to keep your site safe, secure and running at peak performance. We’ll even send you a condensed maintenance report at the end of each month.
22 Steps to Peace of Mind
|Website backups||Daily||The only thing worse than losing your entire site is not having a way to bring it back. We’ll verify that full site backups are created on schedule and stored in a secure and accessible location. If anything goes haywire, we’ll help you restore your website to a healthy state.|
|Security audits||Weekly||Like any popular platform, WordPress is frequently targeted by hackers. Regular security audits ensure that your site remains free from malware. We scan your site for malware, blacklisting, injected spam, and other defacements.|
|Software updates||Weekly (or as needed)||Plugins, themes, frameworks, and the WordPress platform itself all need frequent security and maintenance updates. We’ll monitor your site frequently to make sure that all updates are tested, installed and functioning properly.|
|Password updates||Quarterly||We’ll update administrative passwords to current industry standards every three months, or as required.|
|Check downloadable files||Quarterly||If you have PDF documents available for download, we’ll make sure that they’re correctly linked, labeled, and can in fact be downloaded.|
|Examine page links||Quarterly||We’ll run an automated hyperlink checker to make sure that no links are broken, that internal links point where they’re intended, and that external links open in a new tab.|
|Validate HTML and CSS||Quarterly||To avoid code incompatibilities, we use tools like the W3C Markup Validation Service to verify that all pages of your site adhere to current web standards. If not, we’ll provide recommendations.|
|Test web forms||Weekly||If your site has any interactive forms (contact, order, profile, survey, etc), we’ll verify that they’re validating, collecting, and routing data correctly and efficiently.|
|Preview website in major browsers||Quarterly||To spot cross-browser compatibility problems, we’ll regularly view your site in the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge, on both Windows and Mac platforms.|
|Responsive design||Quarterly||Having a site that performs well on mobile devices is essential. To ensure an optimal user experience, we review your design on a variety of mobile devices and platforms (Android, iOS), as well as device emulators and mobile testing tools.|
|Speed audits||Monthly||Website changes, especially plugins, images, external scripts, and advertising banners, can drastically affect page speed. Once a month, we’ll check and record your page load times.|
|DNS inspection||Quarterly||On a regular basis we’ll run a comprehensive Domain Name System (DNS) report that will help identify and troubleshoot any domain name system errors or anomalies.|
|Review Google Analytics||Monthly||Collecting site visitor usage data is important to track site performance and make informed decisions. If you have Google Analytics installed, we’ll run standard reports once per month, or as required.|
|Review social media profiles||Monthly||An effective online presence wouldn’t be complete without social media. We can check your social profiles to ensure that they’re correct and effective (profile photos and cover pictures can be tricky to size properly).|
|Social sharing links||Monthly||If social sharing links or icons are active on your site, we’ll confirm that they include the right platforms, profiles, and links.|
|Validate site feeds||Monthly||If you have RSS, news, social, or other feeds on your WordPress site, we’ll make sure that they’re working as intended.|
|Inspect robots.txt file||Monthly||Web robots are often used by search engines to index web sites. Your site’s robots.txt file tells these robots which pages should not be indexed. We’ll review your robots.txt file for accuracy and reconfigure if necessary.|
|Inspect XML sitemap||Monthly||An XML sitemap is a simple file that lists the page URLs for a website. This allows search engines to crawl your site more intelligently. We review your sitemap to make sure it’s current and accurate.|
|Site updates||2 hours||Up to two (2) hours per month of website content updates. Not cumulative. Updates in excess of two hours per month billed at $100 per hour.|
|Video||Unlimited||Access to our list of free WordPress training videos and tutorials.|
|One-on-one||2 hours||Up to two (2) hours per month of personalized training; via phone, email or in person. Not cumulative. Training in excess of two hours per month billed at $100 per hour.|
|One-on-one||2 hours||Up to two (2) hours per month of technical support; via phone, email or in person. Not cumulative. Support in excess of two hours per month billed at $100 per hour.|
