At the Academy of Country Music Awards in April 2017, Miranda Lambert sang her song “Tin Man.” She did it solo, with just a guitar. What struck me most about the performance was its purity and silence — Between notes, you could’ve heard a pin drop.
When I first saw the YouTube video of the event in May, it had just broken 3,000 views. In early December it had more than 10 million. But what really got my attention was one of the comments left about the video. In part, it read:
No gimmicks, no light show, no DJ, no electronic beats — just a girl and her guitar. This is country music.

So, what’s this got to do with building websites? Nowadays the web design industry is so cluttered with frameworks, libraries, design tools, workflows, and UI/UX gibberish that it’s a wonder anything ever gets built any more.
For some reason, Miranda’s ACM Awards video has been “removed by the user.” Too bad. But her performance of “Tin Man” on Austin City Limits is available here:
